Extremadura is a Spanish Autonomous Community, consisting of two provinces, Cacers and Badajoz (41.602 sq. km), The largest in Spain.

In its peneplain there exist mostly great formations of granitic bases which emerge to the surface mixing with oak- and cork-trees.

Man´s exploiting of its subsoil dates back to Prehistoric times, because the Celts themselves have passed on to us funereal and religious monuments. Its strength and ornamental properties have been inequivocal factors for its subsistence.

Romans, Visigoths and Arabs also used granite as  a fundamental element in contruction. They attained their greatest splendour during the Roman rule and their capital, Emerita Augusta (Mérida) was their best exponent. It is a historical-archaelogical site declared World Heritage bi UNESCO in 1993.

The abundance and diversity of shades and colours this rock has generated in Extremadura an ample industrial sector which is one of the leading forces of the economic development for this region and its people in the future.
